Develop Prize

On 22 June the most promising social entrepreneurs were celebrated at the Develop Prize. Develop Prize is a yearly business plan competition for young social entrepreneurs arranged by the student organization Develop, with the Confederation of Danish Industry hosting the 2010 final.

The winner of the 2010 Develop Prize was OroClean, a team consisting of four students from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The jury of experienced professionals from IFU, The Danish Trade Council, and Symbion were impressed by the innovative approach and convincing business plan.

OroClean has developed a business plan for a simple low-cost centrifuge which separates gold from waste materials. The product is targeted subsistence miners and enables elimination of mercury usage in small-scale gold mining.

During the event Anders Hauch from DIBD presented examples of successful BOP business models and the experience DIBD has gained from assisting companies developing and implementing successful BOP strategies. Other notable speakers included Per Krull, a Senior Conultant and Ph.D. student working with Social Enterprises and their business- and strategic partnership models.
